America’s Finest City has been blessed with incredible weather, making it possible to simply step outside and find fun things to do in San Diego. One great way to have fun in the San Diego sun and get a good workout while you’re at it is to play tennis.
The Balboa Tennis Club, located in Balboa Park by the Morley Field Golf Course, boasts dozens of courts that are all lit so you can enjoy them day or night. Many of the courts offer bleacher seating in case you have friends that want to watch or would like to take a break and watch some others play. There are even three Challenge Courts which allow you to find a game practically any time you show up even if you’re by yourself. The club hosts highly regarded tournaments throughout the year that you can stop in and watch even if you don’t feel like playing and has a pro shop on the facilities where you can buy a wide variety of equipment, get advice and have your racket customized to your style. Of course, showing up with a friend just to play a few games is also a good idea and one of the best things to do in San Diego.
A day pass to the Balboa Tennis Club is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and military, and $6 for juniors. If you want to rent a ball machine to practice returns you can rent one for $18 per hour. Tennis provides an excellent cardiovascular workout while honing hand eye coordination and foot speed, all of which you can do while enjoying yet another beautiful day or evening outside in San Diego. Even if you are a tennis novice you still will get a workout and have fun knocking the ball around and scurrying around on the courts. Be sure to bring some water and sunscreen when heading out for a day of tennis. There are plenty of things to do in San Diego this weekend, but playing a few games of tennis in the fresh air is at or near the top of the list.
