Are you looking for some arts and crafts things to do in San Diego? Something where you can not only learn a new skill but also go home with something as well? Then ceramics class is for you. An extensive art background or previous experience with ceramics is not necessary, just a desire to learn and use your imagination to create something new.
A 1-on-1 pottery class at Tangible Goods is now available as a FunGig, providing you with the chance to learn the ancient art of pottery. Your experienced designer and ceramic artist, Torrey, will provide you with individualized instruction and supervision as you make your next masterpiece, using hand-building techniques, throwing on the wheel, or both. This is an amazing opportunity to really advance your ceramics skills, whether you are looking to remember things you learned back in high school, hone skills you already have, or simply try your hand at pottery for the first time. There’s nothing like the satisfaction of making something beautiful that you can take home and use or give to friends as presents. You’ll be surprised at how nicely your pieces will turn out and will be excited to display them in your home and return for another class where you can make more. No need to look for new things to do in San Diego this weekend when you can sign up for a crash course on ceramics!
These personalized classes cost $150 per hour and are available in two to four hour blocks. Included in the FunGig is access to all of the equipment in the Tangible Goods studio, four pounds of stoneware clay, the choice of glazing and firing your pieces that day or later in the week depending on the glaze you choose, and one-on-one instruction and supervision while you’re working. Under the watchful eye of Torrey and her staff, you will gain a deep understanding of what works and what doesn’t when you’re hand-building and using the wheel to ensure that your creations are the best they can possibly be. Remember, these are not just pieces of art, they’re also functional. You can make bowls for soup and cereal, vases for flowers, dinner plates, masks, and much more! Of all the fun things to do in San Diego, there aren’t many that let you be creative, learn a new skill, and take home something to remember it by in the way a personalized pottery class does.
